Launchpad is an online platform created by Canonical Ltd. for software development, collaboration and hosting of projects. It was launched in 2010 and is based in London, England. Launchpad provides a web-based interface for developers to manage their projects, as well as a repository for code and documentation. Developers can use Launchpad to track bugs, submit patches, collaborate on translations, submit blueprints (specifications), and host source code repositories. Launchpad also provides an API (Application Programming Interface) that allows developers to access its services from other applications. Launchpad supports a wide range of programming languages including Python, PHP, Ruby and Java. Additionally, it supports version control systems such as Bazaar, Git and Mercurial. Launchpad is free to use for open source projects; however there are fees associated with private projects or commercial usage.
